Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows- Review

I remember the first time I heard about Harry Potter. My mom and I were watching the Rose O’Donnell Show and she was raving about how great the Philosopher’s Stone was. A day later my mom and I went to Book City and purchased my first Harry Potter book and from there, it’s all history. Seven books and several years later, it’s still one of the most entertaining, well written contemporary series I’ve ever read. Some may say “oh it’s for children!” but I really have my doubts, especially after watching part 1 of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows this past weekend. Continue Reading

Lou Dawg’s Southern Sandwiches

As quickly as I am to tell the world I’ve sworn off red meat, I get a fabulous deal from TeamBuy: $22 worth of food for $10 at Lou Dawg’s Southern Sandwiches. I mean, how can I say no to brisket and pulled pork? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly drooling at just the thought…I mean when can vegetables ever be that mouth watering? Seriously? Here’s my restaurant review of Toronto’s Lou Dawg’s Southern Sandwiches. Continue Reading

Easy Pesto Vegetarian Burrito

For the past month and a half I’ve gone relatively red-meat free (with the exception of one particularly delicious steak at The Keg Mansion for BB’s birthday), and I’m already starting to feel some of the results by excluding pork and beef from my diet. That being said, bring on the veggies! With vegetarian restaurants in the city being ridiculously overpriced for what some would refer to as “rabbit food”- there are delicious and affordable ways to create your favourite vegetarian dish right at home. Today, I made an easy-peasy grilled vegetarian pesto burrito with my inspiration being from Fresh, where they serve essentially the same dish just with a much heftier price tag. Continue Reading

Restaurant Review: Buzzy’s Pizza- Niagara Falls, NY

Besides the usual cross-border shopping I occasionally travel the two hours (each way) for, Niagara Falls is not only good for it’s vastly cheaper goods, kitschy tourist attractions, casinos, Target, and copious amounts of outlet malls. No, there’s something much more fried and coated with several types of sauces and paired with a $1.95 Coronita. That my friends, is Buzzy’s Pizza and their buffalo chicken wings. Emerald Chinese Restaurant

I was seriously craving dim sum at a place that was just as delicious as the lunch we had in Melaka. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find the right place in downtown Toronto that creates something absolutely drool worthy, something I would day dream about in class as the minute hand slowly ticked closer to lunchtime. That is, until two years ago when my family and I stumbled upon a gem- or rather an Emerald of a dim sum joint in Mississauga, Ontario. Continue Reading

Dim Sum in Melaka

Sundays are one of my favourite days of the week. Whereas for some, Sundays evoke sadness or even fear of the looming incoming 9-5 work week ahead, or the departure of a warm, beach-filled weekend. I understand why for some people Sundays are the absolute worst. I know once university starts up again this fall I’ll get pangs of that same sadness of Sundays, knowing I have exams and papers to work on. But in the summer, Sundays mean much more to me. They mean DIM SUM! Continue Reading
